Tube Mill and Pipe Milling

Tube Mills is used in the manufacture of pipes and tubing. The products are manufactured from a variety of raw materials including polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene, nylon, brass, steel and other alloys. They are then shaped by hand into the desired configuration. Tube mills and milling machines can be either direct or indirect feed machines. Both have a grinding, cutting, compressing or tumbling action and can be operated manually, electrically or pneumatically. They are generally used for the production of pipes and tubing in large volume.

Tube Mill

Tube mills and machine making machines are of different types. Tube milling machines are used to make tubes and other fibrous materials through a roller process. The output of this milling machine is a roll-ready product, which can be further compressed or molded into any size and shape. They are used to manufacture pipes and other similar products which are not feasible to make manually.

In a tube mill line system the material is fed in one side at a time to form the desired shape. A cutting device cuts out the material as desired to fit inside the other end of the line. This device is called a taper tool. As the taper tool leaves the end of the line, the cutting device and the outside diameter of the pipe are pre-drilled for a perfectly formed and precise joint. The same process is repeated on the other side to form the other side of the product. This continuous process is called forming.

Tube Milling and welding is the process of joining two pieces of metal by welding them together. The tube mill combines both the steps of manufacturing to provide a welded joint of high strength and diameter range. Since the welding is carried out at low amperage and with high frequency, the quality and consistency of the weld is excellent. For this reason tube milling is highly demanding and can be characterized by a high turn-out and high cost.

For making tubes, the best material is aluminium. This metal has the ability to carry higher current densities than the other metals due to its heat-resistant property. The high current carrying capacity of the aluminium allows the product to be made into smaller sizes with high strength and diameter range. The high strength and diameter range are important because it ensures the products required by the customer are made in the correct size and the correct strength and diameter range.

The concept of combining pipe and welding process is known as Tube Mill systems which involves high precision welding and tube milling to form perfect joints. The electrical resistance welding ensures there is no rust while the mechanical strength provided by the aluminium ensures the product remains strong and flexible for long term use.
